The standing comedian Kunal Kamra has approached the Mumbai High Court in an attempt to revoke a pass sent by the city police for allegedly passing the “traitor” Jibi in Maharashtra.

Mr. Kamra moved to the High Court on 5 April.

His plea claims that the complaint against him violates his fundamental rights to freedom of speech and freedom of speech and has the right to practice any profession, business and right to life and freedom under the Indian Constitution.

The request made by advocate Meenaz Kakalia is likely to be heard on a bench led by Justice Sarang Kotwal on April 21.

Kamra received temporary transit bail from Madras High Court in a case against him last month. He is a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu.

Despite three subpoenas sent to him, the comedian has not appeared before the Mumbai police to inquire.

In one show, Mr. Kamra mocked Mr. Shinde with a modified version of the Hindi song from the movie Dil to Bagal Sea, without naming his name, where he called him “gaddar” (traitor).

The comedian went on to joke about how Mr. Sind resisted Uddhav Thackeray.

Following the complaint by Shiv Sena Mla Murji Patel, the police here conducted FIR registration (a statement on public mischief) and 356 (2) (Defamation) (Defamation) on Kamra under section 353(1)(b) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
