Kuwait supports India to win seats in UN Security Council

Kuwait’s permanent representative at the United Nations and co-chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiation (IGN), Tareq Albanai expressed support for India’s membership in the UN Security Council. He called India “a major player on the world stage” and stressed that if the Council’s expansion occurs, India will become a competitor.

He recalled his co-chairman Alex Marschik’s visit to India when he spoke of a news briefing on Thursday’s inter-parliamentary negotiations. Intergovernmental negotiations between Kuwait and Austria on Security Council reform.

Earlier on April 1, the French Embassy in India said that as France holds monthly presidency in the UN Security Council, it will focus on the needs of UNSC reforms, aiming to make India a permanent seat.


In an article on X, the Embassy said that under France’s monthly presidency as the Security Council, it will guide discussions on areas of global peace, security and humanitarian impact. The Embassy further stressed that France will reaffirm the need for permanent seats in India, in an article published on the French Embassy of India, France said: “Today, France has taken on a certain focus during the monthly presidency of @UN Security Council to focus on the focus of global peace, to be well-positioned to reflect humanity around the globe, to reflect humanity of humanity. India has long been seeking permanent seats in the Security Council to better represent the interests of developing countries. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) consists of 15 member states, including five permanent members with veto power and ten non-term members, for a two-year term.

Five permanent members of the UN Security Council include China, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and the United States. Non-serving members of the UN Security Council are elected by UNGA for 2 years.
