Lake Cormaley became a victim

Hyderabad: Unidentified people illegally dumped large amounts of building debris, garbage and rocks into Jonnabanda Cheruvu near Kompally Alwal. Residents say the activity is often carried out after midnight, under the cover of darkness. They fear that the lake will soon turn into a landfill.
Local residents, Deccan ChronicleSay the truck arrives at night and then unloads the rubble directly into the lake. Residents of the Vajra Enclave asked to be anonymous, saying: “Dumping starts after 11 p.m. Nearly 6-7 trucks come together and start dumping garbage, rocks and building materials into the lake.”
The colonial members also said: “This has been going on for several months. The GHMC and local authorities are very familiar with the dumping situation, but no one has stepped up to take action.”
Jonnabanda Lake, along with nearby Macha Bolaram Lake and several other smaller bodies of water, used to be a hub for local biodiversity. However, these water bodies are shrinking rapidly due to encroachment and illegal dumping.
“About a month ago, I went and asked the drivers who unloaded the waste into the lake why they did this and tried to stop them. But they pushed me away and almost attacked me. I had no trouble, so I left.”
“We have considered complaints to the police and authorities, but we are worried that they may cause problems for our colonial members, so we have not done so. Citizen authorities must act immediately or the entire lake will be dried and will become a landfill for building debris,” another resident asked to be anonymous.
When asked about this question, a Hydraa official told Deccan Chronicle The lake protection personnel will be sent to monitor the site. “We will take this seriously. Our team will try to seize the culprit and prevent further damage to the lake,” the official said.
