Britain must stand with India: India – Priti Patel, the original MP condemns Pahalgam attack in parliament | Watch | India News

India – Original British Parliamentary MP Priti Patel on Thursday condemned the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives as an “act of murderous terrorism” and called on the British government to stand with India in this time of crisis.

Patel condolences at the House of Commons’ speech and urged Britain to support India in its resolution of cross-border terrorism. “My condolences, thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Pahalgam’s violent terrorism,” she said. “We must call it terrorism – and stand up with our friends in India.”

Patel highlighted the long-standing India-UK security partnership, citing important milestones such as the New Delhi Declaration (2002), the Strategic Partnership Agreement (2016), the Integrated Strategic Partnership (2022) and the 2030 UK roadmap. “Security arrangements have always been watertight and we must always be consistent with India in the face of this attack,” she said.

Conservative MPs asked the British government to clarify its intelligence on the attackers in a detailed intervention. “Does the government consider the banned group Lashkar-e-Taiba responsible or confirms a confirmed cross-border link with Pakistan?” She wondered, asking for an analysis of the origin of the attack.

Patel also proposed the timing of the attack, which occurred during the visit of U.S. Vice President JD Vance and his family during a visit to India. “Is this a coincidence or part of a wider timed attack mode?” she questioned.

Raising broader concerns, Patel asked whether the UK had assessed the links between Kashmir terrorist groups and international networks such as Hamas, and warned of the potential consequences of UK national security. She also demanded measures to oppose public tensions from spillover to the UK and requested information on security in London’s High Commissioner for India.

Finally, Patel called on Britain to use its diplomatic power to help spread tensions between India and Pakistan.

Consequences of Pahalgam attack

The Pahalgam terrorist attack took place in the scenic Baisaran valley, also known as “Mini Switzerland”. Terrorists armed with automatic weapons opened fire on tourists, shooting 26 dead, including Nepali citizens, and causing serious harm to several others. Witnesses reported panic scenes as tourists fled the open landscape in horror.

India’s response was to take rapid diplomatic and strategic measures, such as the indefinite moratorium on the Indian waters treaty with Pakistan and the expulsion of all Pakistani nationals from India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to track down the perpetrators and their supporters: “Terrorism will not be punished.”

Pakistan’s actions to shut down airspace to Indian airlines triggered a similar reaction in New Delhi, followed by a downgrade of diplomatic representatives between the two countries and increased international concerns about reduced volatility in South Asia.
