Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday (3 April 2025) on whether the government would introduce a new bill to establish the National Judicial Appointment Commission (NJAC) to replace the existing university system.
In a written response to the question of Sasmit Patra, member of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Mr. Megwal’s detailed reply to Rajya Sabha, detailed reply to Rajya Sabha, what to do with the strategy proposals suffered now, but avoided a specific reply to Brining Back njac.

He said the Constitution of 2014 (the 99th Amendment) and the National Judicial Appointment Commission Act of 2014 were proposed to replace the joint system of Supreme Court judges appointing the Supreme Court and the High Court, and had a “broader, more transparent, responsible appointment mechanism” and brought greater objectivity in the system.

“But both acts were challenged in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s judgment dated October 16, 2015, declaring that both acts were unconstitutional and false. Prior to the implementation of the Constitution, the system was the Constitution (Chapter 99) Act of 2014, declared surgery.”
NJAC is once again focused after allegedly found half-burned banknotes at the official residence of the judges in the Delhi High Court.
