Land acquisition at the proposed freight airport near Mulapeta Seaport in Srikakulam district sparked strong opposition, with the left raising protests against what they call a government-led “land grabbing.” The left-wing leaders under the banner of “Karajata” organized a protest rally in the village of Mandasa Mandal in Gangwada and Srikakulam districts to win the support of locals to oppose land acquisition.
CPI (M) – Srikakulam Regional Secretary D. Govinda Rao said: “The government can allocate 300 acres of land under the control of the Mulapeta Seaport to build the airport without having to force people to surrender their fertile coconuts and cashews under the developed Garb.” He added that people do not want destructive developments in the Udanam region. They have always opposed destructive development. Previously, they opposed Sompeta's hot plants. Similar large-scale protests will be organized if the government does not issue a clear statement on the issue. ”
