Modisri Lanka visit in the afternoon: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sri Lanka with Anura Kumara Dissanayake to jointly unveil on Sunday and announced this in an Indian-backed railway project in Anuradhapura.

Railway forecasts are an important milestone in the growing bilateral infrastructure cooperation between the two countries. At a formal ceremony at the Anuradhapura Railway Station, two leaders launched two major projects – the upgraded railway tracks of the Maho-Momanthai line and the new signaling system in the Maho-Anuradhapura field.

The two projects, implemented with the assistance of India, are expected to significantly improve the connectivity and security of the northern railway network. Prime Minister Modi and President Lanka were welcomed by locals at the station upon arrival. Many in the crowd grabbed the moment on their phones. The railway project is implemented by IRCON International Limited (PSU), the Public Sector Service (PSU) of the Ministry of Railways of the Government of India.

After the talks, Prime Minister Modi received Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan, one of the highest civilian honors of the island nation – recognizing India’s unwavering support and the Prime Minister’s personal contribution to deepening the bilateral ties.

The day also witnessed the signing and exchange of several memorandums of understanding (MOUS), with the two leaders jointly unveiling new Indian-backed plans for infrastructure, energy and development sectors.

After a “very productive” visit with Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister traveled to India where he held extensive talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and witnessed the signing of several agreements to promote cooperation in sectors such as defense, energy and digitalization.

Modi arrived in the capital of Sri Lanka from Thailand, where he participated in the summit of Bimstec (Bangladesh Bay Multi-Section Technology and Economic Cooperation Initiative).
