Level 10 student was killed after flipped in tractor near Goodiathum

A Class X student was killed after traveling to the village of Bathalapalli near the town of Gudiyatham, Vellore on Friday.

Police said the deceased student was identified as A. Hari (15) who wrote the board exam. Initial inquiry revealed that tractor owner B. Sekar (52) was allegedly involved in an illegal sand mine from the River Malattaru River, a Palar tributary, for many years.

Local A. Lokesh (18) once helped him illegally mine sand from dry riverbeds. In the early hours of Friday, Sekar assigned the work to Lokesh, who brought his friend's son Hari with him.

After returning with the sand, Lokesh lost control of the vehicle while driving the vehicle on Bathalapalli Main Road. Harry sat in the car next to him. The tractor capsized and fell into a pit six feet deep from the driveway. Harry was seriously injured. Passers-by and other residents rushed the duo to the government Taruk Hospital in Penanbut town, where doctors declared Harry dead on arrival. Bathalapalli police registered a case. The tractor owner and driver were arrested. Detection is underway.
