Ratan Tata’s TCS accused of favoring Indian workers, Tata Group responds

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is reportedly investigating dozens of such charges. TCS has over 600,000 employees worldwide.
TCS News: India’s largest IT company, TATA Consulting Services (TCS), has been accused of discriminating against American workers based on their age, race and nationality. Many such employees over 40 said they were targeting layoffs and colleagues in India were spared, Bloomberg reported. Now, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is reportedly investigating dozens of such charges. TCS has over 600,000 employees worldwide. IT Professional’s current market value is Rs 11.94 crore.
TCS responds to the charges
Tata Group responded to the allegations by labeling it as “valued and misleading.” “TCS has a strong track record of becoming an equal opportunity employer in the United States and has the highest level of integrity and value in our operations,” a TCS spokesperson said. The company declined to comment on the specific details of the workers’ complaints.
The complaint began to surface in late 2023 and raised concerns about the company’s treatment of non-South Asian employees. As the EEOC investigation continues, the agency has not released any public details because federal law protects the confidentiality of the complaint. This is not the first time that TCS has faced such scrutiny. In the UK, three former workers have made similar claims of discrimination against the company and alleged that it is based on age and nationality as part of the layoff plan. TCS also denied the allegations.

TCS calculates major U.S. customers such as airlines, automakers and financial institutions. The company also faces criticism for using visa programs, especially L-1A visas. Bloomberg reported in February 2024 that the company relied heavily on the L-1A visa program, which was designed for internal company transfers. Some former employees claimed that TCS used the L-1A program to circumvent H-1B visa rules and alleged that the company denied it.
