Dave Filoni about the Losing of Ray Stevenson

When Ray Stevenson died Ahsoka Season 2 almost died from it. The creator of the show, Dave Filoni, in STar War This weekend celebrates Japan and has a panel discussion on his Disney+ show. Along the way, the topic of Stevenson’s death emerged, and Filoni became apparently excited. Stevenson plays the fallen Jedi master Baylan Skoll, a character who obviously plays a big role in the future of the series – but, Filoni reveals, it is progressing much deeper than that.
“Season 2 was obviously a huge challenge, but it was a particularly huge challenge due to the loss of Ray,” Filoni said in the group. “He was just the greatest person on the show and such a great spirit. I know Ray knew Ray from the voices he performed with him, and I always contacted him immediately and thought, ‘When I was doing a reality show, I needed this guy to portray a powerful Jedi Knight I missed.’ He didn’t have any way to disappoint.
“Even if I think about continuing, I’m still a challenge [Ahsoka] There was a while,” he continued. But Jon and I had a good support group [Favreau] and Rosario [Dawson] I found a way. I had thunder in my head and I thanked all the conversations with him about Belan. So I knew what to do and it took me a while to get there. But I am very confident now that Lei will be satisfied with the direction we choose. ”
Season 1 ends as Baylan in search of finding a deeper meaning in the troops, and Ahsoka and Sabine are hot on their tails. But according to Filoni, Baylan is more than just a bad guy.
“The role should have been important,” Filoni said. “He was originally parallel to Ahsoka in every way. If there was light, it was dark, and Beren represents a journey of a vanishing Jedi. [Ahsoka] It represents a kind of walking away from order, and so does he. And this parallelism is something that must be continued. ”
Knowing that he wanted to continue the story in honor of Stevenson, Filoni and executive producer Jon Favreau knew there was only one option: recast the character. As previously reported, they found their man in Scottish actor Rory McCann. “Essentially, since Ray acts so much in pictograms, the character should be a blueprint,” Filoni said. “Then, I talked to Jon and Jon and I decided we just needed to find the right person who would not only understand the character, but also what Ray brought. It was imperceptible. It was imperceptible. It was imperceptible. Honestly, we both felt very lucky, we both felt very lucky, we were both lucky, we were lucky, we would meet Rory McCann.
Philoni said McCann was Game of Thrones and Hot fluffhas one main goal: to keep Ray Stevenson’s legacy moving forward. “[Rory] Take it very seriously. He is a big man with a big heart, and he has respect for Lei and the respect he brings to it. I know that the only point of this is not to let Lei down, nor to let you down. You will love them, we love him, and I love everything he does. This is important, so the power is with him. ”
Ahsoka Season 2 will start filming at the end of April. There is no news on the release date, but we have to imagine sometime at the end of 2026.
