Local partners for Metascout Waterworth Project

To meet growing data demands and provide faster speeds for applications like Instagram, WhatsApp, and YouTube, Tech Giant Meta has led the way in its Project Waterworth. The 50,000km submarine cable project is the longest initiative of such in the world, which will connect India, the United States, Brazil, South Africa and other key locations.
The company has held talks with local players such as Airtel, Jio, Tata Communications and Lightstorm to land its cables in the country, people familiar with the matter said.
In addition to other submarine cables implemented, Meta’s Waterworth Cable Line will also provide users in the country with better internet speeds, low latency and lag-free experiences on applications such as Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube. This is crucial for consuming large-scale AI applications and adopting open AI models.
“We are exploring local partnerships with telecom operators in India, and our regulatory team has also evaluated the necessary permits for identifying our submarine cables here,” a company executive said.
For Meta, the Waterworth project is crucial in the country’s growing data usage. According to industry executives, enhancing capabilities is crucial to cater to the huge amount of data that will come into play in the future. Submarine cables account for more than 95% of global data traffic. From YouTube videos to financial transactions to personal messages flowing through submarine cables.

“Meta is investing in the world’s longest, highest and technologically advanced undersea cable TV project in India, one of its largest markets, to connect India, the United States and other locations,” a Yuan spokesperson said. Mintquery.
“This new multi-billion dollar investment will exceed 50,000 kilometers to connect five continents, enhancing the scale and reliability of the global digital roads for Power Meta’s applications and services, and can prepare for services by the end of the decade,” the spokesperson said. Innovation.
Meta License
META is a global entity that does not hold an International Long Distance (ILD) license. Licensing companies provide international long-distance telecommunications services between countries including voice, data and internet traffic.
“Projects like Waterworth, while kit meta-element products such as Instagram and WhatsApp will also be useful in India’s AI deployments as data capabilities will increase to adapt,” said Amajit Gupta, group CEO of Lightstorm.
According to Gupta, given the country’s current regulatory landscape, Meta may seek to work with telecom operators and other local partners to bring its internet to the last mile of the country through its submarine cable.
In short, telecom operators and Internet service providers have the necessary infrastructure, such as cable TV stations, which are key to transmitting data from international points over wireless Internet and fiber optics.
“Partnering with Waterworth’s Meta will bring additional revenue streams for the company as they will charge the company for revenue utilizing infrastructure,” a telecom operator said. He added that it is highly unlikely to adopt the meta-element to adopt the licensing route, as the same element will require the company to form an Indian entity.

The Waterworth project didn’t e-mail the inquiry to the Airtel, Jio and Tata newsletter until the time of publication.
It is worth noting that Meta owns a 9.99% stake in Jio Platforms, the parent company of Reliance Jio.
Meta announced Project Waterworth in February after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the United States. The two countries issued a joint statement, including commitments to subsea technology.
China’s influence
Analysts also believe the Indian-US cooperation and Meta’s Project Waterworth are moves to avoid China’s growing impact on submarine cables. Submarine cables largely pass through high-risk geopolitical areas such as the Red Sea, the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca where cables are frequent and maintenance takes a lot of time.
“The Yuanyuan will avoid high-risk geopolitical areas like the Red Sea and work with selected suppliers with trusted geographical locations,” the company executive said.
Currently, there are about 18 submarine cable lands in India, including Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Tutitorin and Trivandrum. Private companies such as Google, Meta, Airtel and Jio are working on five such projects.
Meta and Airtel are also working on the 2africa Pearls subsea project, while Jio, together with other global telecom operators, has built the Indian Asia-Asia-Express and India-Europe-Express projects.
On Thursday, Airtel said it had landed 2africa pearl cables in the country and connected India with Africa and Europe through the Middle East. It said 2africa pearls bring over 100tbps of international capabilities (per second) to India.
“We will continue to invest in global wired systems and future networks with the goal of providing customers with advanced uptime, reliability and excellent quality networks,” said Sharat Sinha, Director and CEO of Airtel Business in a press release.
Google and its partners are also working on the Blue-Raman subsea cable project in Mumbai, which will connect West, Southern Europe and Asia.
