London High Court dismisses PNB scam, accusing Nirav Modi of tenth bail defense; extradition case moves forward | Indian News

Nirav Modi bail request: The High Court on the King’s bench today rejected another bail petition filed by Nirav Deepak Modi, the fugitive Indian Diamantaire wants in a high-profile PNB fraud case. This marks the tenth failure of Modi to get bail since her arrest in the UK in March 2019.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) confirmed the development, saying the bail request was strongly opposed by the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (CPS) in London, backed by strong legal support from the CBI team, including legal officials who travelled to the UK to attend hearings.

Nirav Modi has been imprisoned in a British prison pending extradition to India since 19 March 2019, where he deceived the Punjab National Bank (PNB) with odds of Rs 64,982 crore for his trial. Indian authorities formally declare him a fugitive economic criminal.

The CBI noted that the British High Court has approved Modi’s extradition in support of the Indian government, a major milestone in years of legal struggles that have brought him back to charges.

“It may be remembered that Neerav Modi, a fugitive economic offender, was tried in India for fraudulent rupees of 6498.20 crore in a bank fraud case in CBI. His extradition has been approved by the British High Court and was approved by the British High Court, and he was defended by his 10th London,” the Central Bureau of Investigation said.

Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are the main defendants in the PNB scam. The Enforcement Bureau (ED) registered a case against Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and others in 2018 for fraud cases against the Punjab National Bank (PNB). During the investigation, several searches were conducted, resulting in epilepsy seizures of diamonds, gold, pearls, and precious and semi-precious stones.
