Maharashtra students became victims of fake admission scams, losing Rs 5 lakh fraudsters to serve as university insiders

A 20-year-old physical therapy student from Kondhwa has filed a complaint against a man in Chinchwad, accusing him of cheating her from Rs 5 lakh with false promises to enter a private university in Navi Mumbai. According to the TOI report, the complaint was filed at the Kondhwa Police Department on Sunday.

According to police, the student met with the suspect at the Physical Therapy Academy near Satala Road in 2023. They become acquaintances and often discuss career opportunities in physical therapy.

The suspect assured the victim that ensuring access to a well-known agency would greatly benefit her career. He claimed strong ties to private universities and he promised her a seat at a prominent institution in Navi Mumbai.
Trusting his words, the student agreed and was asked to transfer the money to his UPI account. More than a month, she made multiple payments, totaling 500,000. However, despite receiving the money, the suspect has not received her admission fee.

Once the student realized she had been cheated, the student approached the police. An investigation has been conducted and officials are working to track down the suspects. Police have urged students to verify admission procedures through official sources to avoid victims of such scams.
