Maintaining death sentences of 15 criminals in murder

The Bangladesh High Court upheld the death sentence of 15 offenders on Tuesday, including a former Awami Union member and three former Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials – in Dhaka three years ago in a case of abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj.
In 2014, seven people, including city company MP Nazruel Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were kidnapped and terrible killings, shocking the country.
Lt. Col. Nur Hossain, a former member of the ruling AWAMI Coalition Party, and then RAB-11 commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, were sentenced to death. The High Court also sentenced 11 other people to life imprisonment and death.
On January 16 this year, a local court found 35 people, including Hossain and 25 former Rab officials, who were charged. Among them, 26 people were sentenced to death and nine others were sentenced to jail.
According to the allegations, Hosin had some hatred with Nazruhr Islam over issues related to the city company and paid the local RAB officials abduction and murder. He later fled to Kolkata but was arrested and sent back by West Bengal police.
