Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko grants bail after arrest in alleged drug use case

Malayalam actress Vince Aloshious also filed a complaint against Shine Tom Chacko to the Kerala Film Chamber and the Internal Complaints Committee on the Film Industry, accusing him of misconduct and substance abuse at the scene.

Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested on Saturday and later taken to a general hospital by police officers in northern Kochi City to undergo medical tests related to the so-called drug use and has been released on bail. Kerala police officers said in an official statement that the Malayalam actor appeared in front of the police due to the incident and escaped from Kochi’s hotel room during a raid. Earlier, the actor appeared with his lawyer at the Ernakulam North Police Station. Shine responded to a notice issued by police that asked him to explain why he tried to escape from a hotel room.

On April 17, BJP leader Nivedita Subramanian slammed Kerala government’s silence over the abuse of women in the state’s film industry. This is in a complaint by Malayalam actress Vince Aloshious against Shine Tom Chacko for his misconduct and substance abuse. Subramanian criticized the Kerala government for “staying silent” in cases of growing abuse of women.

“In Kerala, women and children are on the rise, especially in sectors like the film industry. There are many problems, such as casting sofas, but the ruling party is actually silent on these issues and turns a blind eye to the atrocities that occur in women.” Subramanian continued that similar complaints have been filed in the past, but the government continues to ignore them. She added: “We have raised this issue several times before the leaders of the ruling party and the state, but the government has not actually done anything to solve it and is promoting this mafia.”

Aloshuous recently filed a formal complaint against Shine Tom Chacko with the Kerala Film Chamber and the Internal Complaints Committee of the Film Industry. Vince, known for his roles in Rekha, Vikruthi and Jana Gana Mana, shared her discomfort in Instagram videos, and he said the actor’s behavior – especially in Suthravakyam’s collection – was inappropriate and unprofessional. “A few days ago, during an anti-drug campaign, I issued a statement saying I would not use drugs with people I know. Since then, several comments have questioned my statement and I feel it is necessary to clarify why I did this. I am doing this video to make my position clear.”

She went on to describe specific events that made her uncomfortable during the filming process. She claimed that the film’s main artist did poorly with her and a colleague’s actor under the influence of drugs. One of the incidents involved the actor accompanying her with her to resolve a wardrobe failure in front of the entire crew, she said. Vince said she found the offer to be inappropriate and difficult to accept. She also describes another disturbing moment in which the actor allegedly used white powder during rehearsals. “He spits out some kind of white powder on the table, which is obvious that he is using drugs on the spot,” Vince said. She added that despite her discomfort, she continued to shoot the film because the actors played a major role in it.

Vince further claimed that the production team was aware of the problem. When the director settled the matter, the shooting was planned due to the importance of the actors in the film. The Kerala Film Chamber, one of the state’s main agencies, is now reviewing the complaint filed by Vince.
