Kurnur: The injured person in a road accident on National Highway 40 near Alagada must travel nearly 45 kilometers to Nandyal for trauma care, causing the precious time of “Golden Time” to slip away without treatment.
Medical experts say that if there is immediate trauma care in the local area, many lives can be saved. Despite repeated appeals and commitments to power, no trauma care centre has been established in Alagada.
The national expressways are nearly 50 kilometers 40 kilometers. This stretcher often has accidents and urgent care is a serious problem.
In some cases, golden time (a critical window to save lives) has been lost when emergency vehicles arrive at the scene of the accident and transfer the victim to Nandyal.
There is no doubt that the injured victims were initially provided first aid at government hospitals in nearby Allagadda and Chagalamarri. However, the lack of dedicated trauma facilities means they often transfer it to Nandyal’s GGH for better treatment, resulting in delays, which is fatal in the event of a serious accident. It usually takes up to two hours to reach Nandyal from a remote part of the highway, far beyond the ideal treatment window.
According to official data, there have been 274 accidents in the NH 40 during this period over the past year, resulting in 290 deaths and 750 injuries. Shocking numbers underline the urgent need for fully equipped trauma care centers in Allagadda.
Health professionals say establishing such a facility can greatly improve survival rates by ensuring life-saving treatments.
A senior doctor in the town said: “The state government must prioritize the establishment of trauma centers in Allagadda. The corridors of this highway are busy and accidents occur frequently. Trauma centers may play a crucial role in reducing deaths and saving lives.”
He revealed that whenever they are brought into serious victims, they face tough times.
