Mamata Banerjee slams Odisha on Digha Temple Row

Jagannath Dham in Digha caused major controversy and issued a statement of reasons for the performance, sending a senior servant of Puri Temple about the use of sacred wood in Digha Temple, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a full-force attack on the Odisha government, condemning the attack on Bengal immigrants in Osshasa. She pointed out how the Bangladesh government is next to the Odisha government during times of crisis.Banerje dismissed allegations about the use of “Darukastha Timber” for Jagannath Temple for Puri for Jagannath Temple for Digha.
She said Bangladeshi tourists were the most visited by Puri, who went there at Rath Yatra and other times of the year. Banerjee questioned why they were jealous of Digha's Jagannath Dham. “Why are you jealous? She asked.
“Bangladesh helped Odisha in the case of a crisis cyclone, water pipes and wires damaged, we sent engineers to restore power and other work. When we ourselves were affected by the cyclone, we had sent engineers. When potatoes in the state were scarce, we had sent potatoes,” Banerjee said.

However, the migrant workers were attacked and beaten while speaking in Bengali, adding: “Why did you defeat our Bengali people in Odisha? The Bengali migrant workers were beaten in Odisha, UP, Maharashtra and Bihar.

Bengal Chief Secretary has written a letter to the Odisha government and DGP has also discussed the matter with its Odisha counterpart. “They claimed that I had stolen Neem trees from there. There are four Neem trees at my house. Even idols of Lord Jagannath are being sold, which people keep and worship at their homes,” Chief Minister said while addressing the media in Baharampur during her two-day visit to Murshidabad district. “Why are you my idol is made of marble and I have been questioned by Damble.

She added: “We all went to Puri. When I went to Puri, RSS and BJP protests.”

Banerjee said Indian wood was brought from the Puri Jagannath temple Sevayat Ramkrishna das Mahapatra (also known as Rajesh Daitapati), who brought it from elsewhere at the temple inauguration on April 30.

Banerjee claims to like Odisha, but noted that “the most tourists travel from Bangladesh to Prie throughout the year. Let us both be happy!” she observed.

She also condemned the performance notices of the senior servant. Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has sent a display notice to senior servant Ramakrushna Dasmahapatra, who allegedly said that he had built idols on a newly built temple in Digha.

Ramakrishna Dasmohapatra, secretary of Daitapati Nijog of Shree Jagannath Temple, reportedly was questioned by SJTA for his statements and use of his sacred wood. He was inaugurated at Digha and at the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony. SJTA sent Dasmohapatra a reason for the performance, asking him to respond to the allegations within 7 days.

“I have heard that Detita Patti was called to ask why he was going to Bangladesh…we don’t want any misunderstandings with any state…if we set up Jagannath Dham, why would you object,” Banerjee said today.

Dasmahapatra was instructed to submit his reply within 7 days. The notice reportedly warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response would result in disciplinary action under the provisions of the Shree Jagannath Act of 1955.

After media reports, the operation made a statement that the remaining Neem Wood (Daru) from the 2015 Nabakalebara ceremony at Puri Jagannath Temple was reportedly used to build idols for Digha Temple. However, Dasmahapatra later denied the statements.
