Finally, CM Mamata Banerjee ended her speech without any obstacles. Hearing her tell the protesters: “Tell your party to increase its strength in our state (West Bengal) so that they can fight us.” The audience was also attended when the incident happened around the speech of the chief minister.
In response to the prodigal, the Chief of Congress of Trinamool began to lift his old image from the early 1990s and showed her a bandaged head, claiming that it was evidence of an attempt to kill her during the opposition.
When the audience asked her about “a “specific investment proposal worth” of a “million crore” of Rs. Crores, she claimed the state had received it, while Mamata Banerjee talked about development and investment opportunities in West Bengal. When the CM tried to respond, another member of the other audience argued that another member of the CM was not a press conference.
Although various conferences were related to industry and trade during their visit to London, the main attraction of the Chief Minister’s visit was the speech at Kellogg College. This is where this unexpected event happened. Finally, protesters were forced by other spectators to leave the hall in the event of collective protests.
The Chief Minister was invited to talk about the social development of women, children and the marginalized parts of society at Kellogg College. In his speech, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mentioned projects like “Swasthya Saathi” and “Kanyashree” in the state.
When talking about the industrial situation in West Bengal, some of the people behind the audience mastered the placard when the topic of investment in Tatas TCS was raised. It has written about elections and post-event violence in the state and the RG rape case.
Protesters tried to make their point by yelling in the speech of the chief minister. However, the Chief Minister was not the least welcome and continued to handle the protests with a calm but firm voice. CM Banerjee told the protesters: “You welcome me; thank you. I will feed your dessert.”
When protesters raised the question of the RG KAR rape case, the Chief Minister retorted: “Speak loudly; I can’t hear you. I will hear everything you want to say. Do you know this case is pending? The responsibility for investigating this case is now in the hands of the central government; we are no longer in our hands.”
Mamata Banerjee further said: “Don’t do politics here; it’s not a platform for politics. Go to my state and do politics with me.” After that, the protesters also raised the issue of the incident at Jadavpur University. The Chief Minister then referred to one of the protesters as brothers and said, “Don’t lie. I sympathize with you. But instead of making this platform a political platform, go to Bangladesh and tell your party to strengthen itself so that they can fight us.”
The audience heard the Chief Minister’s answer and the guests in the audience began to applaud loudly. After that, protesters tried to raise their voices. The Chief Minister also told them: “Don’t insult me to disrespect your institution. I come here as a representative of the country. Do not insult your country.” Later, the organizers of the event and the guests present raised the voices of opposition to the protesters. Protesters were forced to leave the venue.
In addition to many foreign Indians, representatives from several different countries also attended the speech of the Chief Minister. However, the organizers of the event expressed regret for the unexpected.
However, the Chief Minister calmly said: “You encourage me to come back here again and again. Remember, Didi doesn’t care about anyone. Didi walks like a Royal Bengal tiger. If you can catch me, catch me!”
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress of all India wrote: “She (Mamata Banerjee) does not back down. She will not fail. The more you become more annoying, she grows and roars.
In the ruthless interruption, a question was raised among the audience about the treatment of Hindus in Bengal. CM Banerjee replied, “I am everyone, Hindus and Muslim.” Then came the audience’s “Go Back” slogan.
The protests were led by members of the left-wing student body Student Union (SFI-UK), who accused CM Banerjee and his government of corruption and suppression of democratic rights. The Chief Minister of West Bengal said: “You should give me a chance to speak. You are not insulting me; you do not respect your institution.”
“These people do this everywhere. They do whatever I go. I support every religion. I support Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians. Don’t name a caste; name all people. What you do is wrong.
In the play, Mamata Banerjee pulled out her image from the 1990s, showing her severe head injuries and bandages. “First look at my photos, how did I try to kill me,” Banerjee said. After the event, SFI-UK issued a statement responsible for the protests saying they opposed the “corruption and undemocratic rule” of Banerjee in West Bengal.
