Mamata ensures release of BSF Jawan in Pakistani detained

BSF Police Officer Purnam Kumar Sahu’s wife was detained by Pakistan Rangers, claiming West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee talked to her over the phone and assured her all efforts to ensure the release of Border Security Force personnel.
BSF Jawan’s wife Rajani said the chief minister called her by phone on Sunday night because she expressed her willingness to see Banerjee seeking CM’s intervention to speed up her husband’s release.
Sahu, 40, published in the Punjab’s Ferozepur field, accidentally crossed the international border on April 23 and was subsequently detained by Pakistan Rangers.
“The Chief Minister also asked about my health and assured me of medical assistance from my elderly in-laws when needed. She also assured me of all efforts to ensure my husband’s release.” Rajani, a Rishra resident in Hooghly district of West Bengal, told reporters.
Ragini also said she had spoken with BSF officials after understanding between India and Pakistan to stop all shooting and military operations on land, air and oceans, but has not received any further updates.
The wife of BSF personnel said she hoped her husband could be brought back through a possible exchange with Pakistan Ranger, who was arrested by Indian troops in Rajasthan on May 3.
Senior TMC leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee was asked by the state government to follow up on the matter, saying he had spoken with the BSF Director General on Saturday night of the release of SAHU.
