Personal life
Shamsheer Vayalil Parambath was born on January 11, 1977 in Kozhikode, Kerala. He studied medicine at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal and studied his MD in radiology from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Institute in Chennai. He also completed a radiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA.
He married Shabeena, the eldest daughter of the billionaire chairman of Lulu Group Ma Yusuff Ali. Vayalil and Shabeena have four children.
Early careers and business
Vayalil began his career as a radiologist at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. He later quit the job and started finding VPS Healthcare from a hospital in Abu Dhabi in 2007.
After years of growth and expansion, the company today operates over 23 hospitals and 125 medical centers in the UAE, India, Oman and several other countries. The team employs approximately 13,000 employees and serves 4.3 million patients each year.
Brands in part of the VPS group include Burjeel Holdings, Lifepharma, Lakeshore Hospital, Ziva and Response Plus Holdings.
Charity and Awards
Vayalil is known for its philanthropy and efforts. His VPS Foundation focuses on health care and education in underserved communities. He signed a donation commitment with his wife Shabeena in 2018, pledging to donate at least half of his wealth. In 2014, he was awarded Pravasi Bharatiya Samman – the highest non-resident civilian honor in India (NRIS).
