On Thursday (May 15, 2025), the Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad announced that it had immediately cancelled the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the Turkish Institute, marking a protest against Turkiye’s support for Pakistan.

According to news reports, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh once said that Pakistan used violations from Leh to Sir Creek at multiple locations, using multiple drones that may have Turkish origin.

In a statement to the media, Manuu conveyed its decision to effectively terminate its five-year academic collaboration with the Yunus Emre Institute (YEI), signed on January 2, 2024.

According to the YEI website, the institute is affiliated with the Yunus Emre Foundation and has been teaching Turkish at cultural centers established in other countries to promote the language and Turkish culture.

The MoU promoted the introduction of the Turkish Diploma Program in the School of Languages, Linguistics and Literature in Manuu. As part of the agreement, the services of visiting professors in Türkiye are used to teach the courses. The university also said that since then, visiting professors have returned to Türkiye.

Manuu canceled the memorandum of understanding, marking another Indian university’s termination of the termination or moratorium with the Turkish organization. Recently, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) suspended its agreement with Turkiye’s Inonu University. The agreement was signed in February this year and requires a three-year plan for teacher-student exchanges and other cooperation. Similarly, Jamia Millia Islam (JMI) cited national security issues and suspended all cooperation with Turkish universities.
