Maul returns! The new Star Wars series explores Sith Lord's crime empire

Lucasfilm is now streaming on Disney Plus with two new animated Star Wars projects – Tales of the Interworld, now streaming on Disney Plus, and the newly announced Maul -Shadow Lord. Both show numerous morally complex roles such as Asajj Ventress, Cad Bane and Darth Maul, indicating a shift to exploring the darker corners of the team. The Underworld was released on May 4 and is a six-part animated collection that contains independent arcs of bounty hunters Cad Bane and Fallen Jedi Asajj Ventress. Their story delves into the alliance of robbery, betrayal and uneasy, illuminating what is beyond the Jedith binary. Nika Futterman returns to Ventress while Corey Burton repeats CAD Bane, both gaining emotional weight for adding to their roles. Critics point out that while animation is visually rich, storytelling can sometimes be rushed.
In a surprise announcement from Japan's Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm also unveiled Shadow Lord, an upcoming animated series that will take on Maul's story after the clone's finale. The new series will escape in Order 66, with Maul's rise as a criminal sect, a moment that frustrated Ahsoka Tano between saving her friend Captain Rex and stopping the former Sith. Sam Witwer will reprise the role of Maul, continuing his fan favorite portrayal.
Although Maul's death has been shown in the rebels, Shadow Lord aims to fill an unexplored chapter between the Clone Wars and the Rebels, detailing how Maul established the Crimson Dawn Group.

These two projects reflect the growing appetite for complex antiheroes in the Star Wars universe, who operate in gray and often shape the galactic events from the shadows.
