Usha Sangwan made history when he became the first female managing director of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in 2013. Usha has worked at the company for over 35 years and retired in 2018. She led the company with MD from 2013 to 2018. Currently, the market capitalization of LIC, the largest insurance company in India, is Rs 4.92 crore. The company’s share price closed at Rs 777 on NSE on Wednesday.
Usha is the daughter of India’s oldest billionaire, Lachman Das Mittal (94), who founded the Sonalika Group. Currently, according to Forbes, his real-time net worth is $6.1 billion (as of March 19). Daughter Usha is currently a director of the board of directors of several companies, including Tata Motors, Torrent Power, Center for Technology, Finance and Entrepreneurship (CTFE), and more. Usha, 67, was born in Punjab and completed primary school at the Government Model High School in Chandigarh. During her tenure at LIC, she played an important role in increasing the company’s premium collections. Usha has married retired Chief Income Tax Chief Commissioner Narender Sangwan. The couple has two children – a son and a daughter. Usha has four siblings – three brothers and one sister.
