Who is Rajiv Ranjan?
Rajiv Ranjan is a computer engineer who comes from a small village in the Darbhanga district of Bihar. He worked for a US company with a salary package for US companies. However, he now leads the FPC (Farmer Producer Company) of 853 farmers, who are in business. His story is both inspiring and surprising.
How Rajiv Ranjan United farmers open their own company
Rajiv Ranjan completed his studies in 2013 and worked with several major companies. However, during the 2021 Common-19 pandemic, he returned to the village. Upon arrival, he closely observed the problems faced by fox nut farmers and explored the possibility of fox nut cultivation. Rajiv visited six districts in Bihar and learned about the challenges related to Fox Nut production. To solve the problem of the farmers, he started fox nut cultivation on his 40 acres and increased yields by renting 80 acres.
Ranjan is facing reconsidering her decision and leaving a profitable job to venture into the planting of fox nuts (Makhana) is not easy. Rather than choosing a relaxed life, he chose to raise fox nuts in a muddy pond, unite fox nut breeders and teach them a challenging and dangerous path to new marketing strategies. However, his bold step has become a source of prosperity for farmers in the region.
In 2023, Rajiv founded Manigachhi Midas Farmer Producer Company Limited (FPC), which now recruits more than 2,700 farmers. Under Rajiv’s guidance, farmers adopted improved fox nut cultivation and processing techniques, thereby increasing yields. Therefore, the group produced 57 tons of fox nuts with a turnover of about Rs 9 crore. The price of fox nuts soared from Rs 280 per kilogram to Rs 1,200 per kilogram, greatly increasing farmers’ income.
