Success stories of outstanding results for IAS officials and others, as their academic efforts have been inspiring for decades, and every year at UPSC we see candidates’ UPSC exam results. Some of them started with a bad start, but thanks to the commitment, they surpassed one of India’s most difficult competitive exams to enter the coveted central administration service. Sreenath K used to be a mean job, and he used the opportunity to become an IAS official around him.
Who is Sreenath K?
Sreenath K is a coolie in Kerala and was surprised by the IAS exam with just one attempt. He comes from Munnar, Kerala and works as a coolie at Ernakulum Railway Station. Sreenath K wanted to promote himself and his family from a poor background, so he decided to study to ensure the prestigious government work. He cracked the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) for the Karnataka Administrative Service KAS exam by using free Wi-Fi services at the train station and by conducting research on a daily basis via mobile phones.
With the help of WiFi, he downloaded audiobooks and videos in preparation for work. He bought phones, memory cards and headphones to help him learn. After taking the KPSC exam and clearing it up with a good ranking, he wanted to improve his success by trying to become an IAS official.
For preparation for the UPSC exam, he began to make two transitions to earn more. Even though he once earned Rs 400-500 a day, he continued and successfully secured his fourth attempt at UPSC and became an IAS official. The then union minister Piyush Goyal congratulated him on his success in 2018, and his story was even shared by Google India.
