Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney only two weeks after taking over Justin Trudeau

Carney said that during times of crisis, the government needs a strong and clear mission.
Al Jazeera reported on Sunday that Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney had held parliament on April 28 and convened a quick election. The move came less than two weeks after Carney took office, replacing former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Carney noted that under Al Jazeera, a strong mandate sparked by President Donald Trump’s trade lawsuit to deal with ongoing trade tensions with the United States.
Liberal Party Leadership Meeting with Governor Mary Simon, a reporter in Ottawa said: “Canada is facing the biggest crisis of his life [Donald] Trump’s unreasonable trade actions against our sovereignty and its threats demand the dissolution of the parliament. “I ask Canadians to take on a strong, positive task to deal with President Trump and build a new Canadian economy that works for everyone because I know we need change – big change – positive change,” he added.
According to Al Jazeera, the election was originally scheduled to be held by October 20, but experts believe Carney’s Liberal Party wants to capitalize on its current momentum. Recent polls show that the Liberals are in close matchups with opposition conservatives. The party has been in the administration since 2015, with Trudeau’s announcement in January that he plans to resign when Trump repeatedly threatened.
The U.S. president’s tariffs and calls on Canada have exacerbated anger and uncertainty, and many Canadians support the liberal government’s (unified) response to Washington. According to recent polls, the Liberal Party is now in a neck-and-neck battle with opposition conservatives after years of criticism as they dealt with the soaring housing costs and affordability crisis.
At the same time, Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to bring Canada into the “51st state.” He also imposed huge tariffs on Canadian goods, which economists say could put the country in recession.
Carney, a former central banker and economist, received the highest approved rating among Federalist leaders, according to a recent IPSOS poll. Canadians see him as the best leader in handling Trump’s tariffs and their influence. Carney has pledged to continue to respond to companies in U.S. trade policies, including reciprocity countermeasures. He also rejected Trump’s proposal to annex Canada, calling it “crazy” and said Canadian sovereignty must be respected before meeting with Washington.
