Meet the student who got No. 99 in the air in Jee Advanced, still not joining IIT, quit…, he is now…

We are talking about Mohammad Sahil Akhtar, who won the All India Events 99 in JEE-Advanced 2023. To get a better chance, he decided to join MIT.
For anyone who wants to become an engineer, a prestigious IIT is a dream university that not only hopes to get a good job one day, but also hopes to gain rich growth. If students want to enter IIT, they have to work very hard, but despite this, some candidates decide not to join even after clearing the entrance exam. Today, we will tell you a student from Kolkata who dreams of joining IIT for further study. He was so passionate about being selected that he began preparing for the IIT JEE exam after Level 10.
We are talking about Mohammad Sahil Akhtar, who won the All India Events 99 in JEE-Advanced 2023. To get a better chance, he then decided to join the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Speaking about his decision to join MIT instead of IIT, Mohammad Sahil Akhtar said: “MIT has more research opportunities and flexible courses. Usually, the most popular avenue is joining IIT in Computer Science Engineering (CSE). My parents would recommend considering IIT bombers.”
Mohammad Sahil Akhtar always grew up believing that IIT was the best way to achieve his dreams and soon realized that the world had more to offer. He realized this after he participated in the IOAA Olympic Games in Georgia, where he also won a gold medal.
Mohammad Sahil Akhtar, elaborating on his thought process, further said, “There was no dependency on any entrance test or a rank for admission. I appeared for the Standard Admission Test (SAT). But more than the SAT score, admission to MIT was based on the institute’s admission committee’s assessment of my application, which included my overall academic records, achievements in academics as well as in extra-curricular activities, essays, and recommendation letters from my school teacher.”
Mohammad Sahil Akhtar was born and raised in Kolkata and is currently studying at MIT. According to his LinkedIn, Mohammad Sahil Akhtar also worked as a quantitative researcher for three months at Graviton Research Capital LLP (starting in June 2024), before serving as an assistant to different equations at MIT in the same year.
In addition to his academic interests, Mohammad Sahil Akhtar runs YouTube channel, and he shares all his experiences through his daily video blog. Mohammad Sahil Akhtar hopes to explore his curiosity in linguistics and philosophy during his time at MIT.
