PM Modi meets with Bangladesh’s chief adviser Yunus in a tense relationship – Video | Indian News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser in Bangladesh on Friday at the scene of the summit of the Multi-Section and Technical Cooperation Initiative (Bimstec) group in the Bay of Bengal on Friday with Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser in Bangladesh.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders since the recall of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval were also present during the meeting. In the surfaced meeting visuals, PM Modi and Yunus began a firm handshake before the bilateral talks. They also saw them sitting down at each other at a Thursday night’s Bimstec Leaders’ Dinner.

The tense ties between India and Bangladesh were held among the tense ties between India and Bangladesh after Yunus faced Flak in New Delhi demanded China to expand its economic impact to Bangladesh.

The quote was clearly published during Yunus’ recent four-day visit to China and surfaced on social media. Yunus’ remarks have exacerbated tensions between New Delhi and Dhaka, who has established close ties under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

It is important to mention that New Delhi has not been concerned about Dhaka’s repeated requests for the extradition of Hasina, which adds another layer of complications. Bangladesh is the incoming chairman of the BIMSTEC Group.

Since the interim government led by Yunus followed the Hasina strike in August 2024, the link between India and Bangladesh has seen a depression in Delhi’s focus on violence and the rise of tough Islamic forces against Hindus. During his visit to China last week, Yunus said the seven northeastern states in India were an inland area and had no access to the ocean.

He called Bangladesh the “sole guardian of the ocean” in the region, which he said could be a huge opportunity, possibly an extension of China’s economy. The remarks were underperformed in India, and Bangladesh officials clarified Yunus’s statement.
