Meet with Canada’s New International Development Secretary Randeep Sarai

Surrey Centre MP Randeep Sarai has played a new role in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet. He has been appointed Secretary of State for International Development.

The news is part of Carney’s first complete cabinet since winning the election. Sarai is one of the 10 state secretaries selected to support the government’s work on key issues.

This is Sarai’s fourth term as a member of parliament. He was first elected in 2015 and then reelected in 2019 and 2021. Sarai stands for Surrey Center, a diverse and fast-growing ride in British Columbia.

Salai said in a statement on social media that he is honored to take on a new role. He thanked Prime Minister Carney and said he looked forward to setting Canada’s global development goals.
As Secretary of State for International Development, Sarai will help oversee Canada’s support for other countries. This includes global humanitarian assistance, education, health programs and poverty reduction efforts.
This role is important as Canada wants to strengthen its global partnership and help countries in crisis. Sale is expected to work closely with the Minister of International Development and other global leaders.
Sarai was born and raised in Canada. He is a professional lawyer and has been actively engaged in community service and local politics for a long time.
