Guwahati: Trinamool Congress MLA quoted the “false” Tap Connection under his name to highlight the irregularities implemented by Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya.
Mizanur Rahman Kazi, representing the Rajabara parliamentary constituency in the mountains of Sigalo, said his inspection of an expanded project exposed the government’s claims that JJM SolutionPerforms well in the state.
“The web portal in Nekikona (village) shows 100% completion of the project, but we found progress at most 15%.”
“If that’s not enough, my name is only the tap connection of my name,” Kazi said.
“JJM is not the only centrally sponsored program that has suffered in Meghalaya. There is a huge difference between the government’s claims and reality in the public distribution system,” he said.
The MLA requires strict action against officials and agencies implementing the JJM program.
The Sigalo Mountain authorities said they are investigating the MLA’s allegations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched JJM in August 2019, promising to provide functional TAP connections to every rural household in 2024.
According to JJM dashboard data, tap water connections have been provided for targeted 6,50,914 Meghalaya homes since the program was released. The implementation rate is 81.98%.
The state government led by Conrad K. Sangma’s National Party has now set December 2025 as its final deadline. The Bharatiya Janata Party is a minor component of the government.
The dashboard also said that 4,123 of the 6,456 villages with targets have reached 100% of the household tap connections, while water supply work has been carried out in 2,322 villages.
Among the 12 regions in Meghalaya, South Garo Hills has the highest progress, with 90.82% of households receiving tap water. East Jaintia Hills, the worst performing region, recorded 66.7% of JJM connections.
