Mexico confirms first human screwworm case

Mexico’s Ministry of Health confirmed the country’s first human disease caused by screwworms, the government said Friday.
The case was found in a 77-year-old woman in the southern Chiapas city of Akakoyaga. Authorities said she was in a stable condition and was treated with antibiotics.
Myopathy is a parasitic infection that occurs when fly larvae attack open wounds (feeding on biological tissue).
