Mumbai High Court orders YouTubers to remove videos that defame Girish Mahajan

The Mumbai High Court has ordered the removal of allegedly defamatory videos of two YouTubers, who are also journalists, targeting Maharashtra Water Resources Minister and senior BJP leader Girish Mahajan.
Reporter restricting journalists who publish or circulate similar content on YouTube channels – “Anil Gaganbhedi Thatte” and “Mudda Bharat Ka” – a single bench judge, Arif Doctors of Arif, provided “Prima facie facie facie defamity defamoration” on Monday in the May 8 order, 2025.
The judge observed: “I found that the case of granting AD temporary relief has been brought. Defendant No. 1 (Mr. Thatte)’s statement was identified from the transcript, and I was ostensibly defamatory. Defendant No. 1, although served and did not appear and based on which statements were based. The next date until the aspect of the prayer clause became an ad temporary order.”
Ravi Kadam, a senior advocate representing Mr Mahajan, said six videos were uploaded on April 1, 8 and 14, 2025, making false, reckless and defamatory statements about the BJP leaders.
Mr. Kadam argued, “These video clips have not only garnered several views, but have also been widely disseminated to the public at large. There are presently six such offending videos, five of which have been uploaded on the YouTube channel of defendant no. 1 (Mr. Thatte), ‘Anil Gaganbhedi Thatte’ and one on the YouTube channel of defendant No. 2 (Mr. Giri), ‘Mudda Bharat Ka’.
The court directed YouTubers to delete the six videos immediately and directed Mr. Mahajan to provide a copy of the order on Google LLC to ensure compliance with the order. The bench will announce the matter on June 20.
