Police say

Police said security personnel were deployed on Saturday (April 19, 2025) in tension between two groups in Sanodha village in Madhya Pradesh Sagar district after allegedly kidnapped a woman.

Sagar Police Chief Vikas Shahwal told Hindu The incident happened around 11:15 a.m., and he said some stores were burned by mobs, which also stabbed the stones of the people trying to control the situation.

Mr Shawar said police are preparing to file a lawsuit against 200-250 unidentified people for murder and vandalism. He added: “Once the FIR is established, we will use CCTV and mobile camera video to identify the people involved.”

He explained that a man and a woman from a different community reportedly escaped on Friday (April 18, 2025). This prompted the woman’s family to file a complaint of missing persons, saying she had been kidnapped by a man.

“After we received information about the mob gathering in the village, about 20-25 people were immediately dispatched. When officials spoke to representatives, including local politicians, some young people went to several stores and caught fire.”

Pradeep Lariya of the Bharatiya Janata party from the Narivali parliamentary constituency, who attended the constituency in the village, claimed that the woman had been “kidnapping” by a man with “criminal thinking”.

“The police should have filed a report of kidnapping. I’ve also talked about it [to the police] But this is not done yet. This is a case of love jihad,” he told reporters, accusing police of “negligence” and “biased actions.”

Mr. Lariya went on to claim that girls who went to school often faced Eve of “this person”.

He said: “When the girls went to school, these people were involved in Eve. As criminals, the defendants had a strong connection. I have discussed this with the Chief Minister and the Minister in charge.”

Mr. Shahwal later confirmed that the man and the woman were located in Guarol and were taken back to Sagar. “We will first record their statements before taking further action,” he said.
