Minister Narayana calls for e-waste management

Municipal Government and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana said in the Swachh Andhra-Swarna Andhra (SASA) plan that e-waste should not be burned, but should be managed. He held a rally from the VRC Center on Saturday to the Nartaki Center in Nellore, with about 5,000 students and people from different parts.

Students put slogans such as “reduce plastic use,” “don’t mix e-waste with other waste” and “stop air pollution – save nature”. Mr. Narayana provides cleaning guarantees for thousands of students. He also unveiled a road cleaning machine assigned to the Nellor Municipal Corporation (NMC).

The minister, together with AP Pollution Control Committee Chairman P. Krishnaiah and Swachh Andhra Corporation MD Anil Kumar Reddy, opened a biologic division in a dump in Allipuram, Nellore. Later, he opened an e-waste collection center at the BVS school in the city’s seventh district.

“Swachh Andhra is only possible when our minds, homes and surroundings are clean. To organize special programs across the state on the third Saturday of each month, everyone will have special programs every month. This month, the theme is electronic waste recycling.”

Mr Narayana said: “If e-waste cannot be managed correctly, the ecological balance will be affected. In addition to accumulating loans, the former government also stored 8.5 million tons of garbage.

He further said that Hyundai Machinery is being provided by 123 municipalities in the state. Likewise, drinking water will be provided to everyone in the state through the AMRIT program. He also directed officials that garbage should be cleaned regularly in all cities and panchayats in the state.

In the Prakasam district, a rally was organized as part of the SASA program, from Ongole PVR High School to the new vegetable market. S. Suresh Kumar, district official and chief secretary of MA&UD, said everyone should participate in the cleaning event to keep Ongole Municipal Corporation’s top position.

In Tirupati’s SASA program, regional collector S. Venkateswar said garbage in the surrounding environment causes diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and chicken pox. He said many diseases were caused by improper recycling of damaged electronics, which contained chemicals mixed with soil, and then drinking water.

“The damaged electronics should be collected and handed over to the municipality so that they can be disposed of safely. Electronic devices idle in homes and stores should be handed over to counters set up by the Panchayats and the rural secretariat in Gram. The municipality will allocate them carefully.”
