Shivanand S. Patil, Minister of Textiles, Sugar, Cane Development and Agricultural Marketing, resigned from members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on May 2.
Mr. Patil called on spokesman Ut Khader to submit his resignation on May 2. Mr. Patil represents the Basavana Bagevadi constituency in Vijayapura district.
He participated in the Basanagouda Patil Yatnal protest at BJP MLA in Vijayapura. The latter challenged the minister to resign from parliament and compete with him (Basanagouda patil Yatnal). The verbal duel triggered the resignation of the minister, resigning from members of the parliament.
In his letter, the minister asked the spokesman to accept his resignation, only when Basanagouda patil Yatnal also resigned from the members of parliament. Mr. Yatnal represents the city constituency of Vijayapura (Bijapur).
Mr Yatnal claimed that without the support of the Muslim vote, Mr Patil would not be able to win the election and called him “a proxy for Pakistan”.
Mr Patil said his resignation had nothing to do with the Congress Party and Karnataka Chief Minister Sidalamaya.
