Minister reviews implementation of Chidambaram drinking water project

Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare MRK PANNEERSELVAM reviewed progress on various drinking water projects carried out by Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department in Chidambaram on April 19, 2025 (April 19, 2025) and Rs 265.59 crore under Amrut 2.0 and Jal Jeevan Mission.
Mr Panneerselvam said at the review meeting that Chidambaram municipality, the drinking water portfolio scheme of Annamalai Nagar Town Panchayat and 36 residences of the 10 rural Panchayats of Parangipettai and Kumaratchi unions were implemented in the range of Rs 255.64 crore.
He said about 71% of the works had been completed, adding that the drinking water supply plan would benefit the combined drinking water supply plan of Chidambaram City, Annamalai Nagar Town Panchayat and 10 Panchayats from 1,27,566 people. He said the project will be commissioned soon.
In addition to using three ground water tanks and five elevated tanks, new elevated tanks were built in two places so that the project could bring drinking water to the Chidambaram municipality and residents of the two Panchayat unions. Currently, the distance of the pipeline is 47 km, while the total length is 61 km.
The minister said services have begun with the distribution of services provided with the housing to provide protected drinking water. Municipalities will bring 135 liters of water per person per day. He said that likewise, the length of the storm drain is 575 meters, while the length of the gutter on two streets in Chidambaram City is 1,128 meters.
