Sikkim CM gives away CR budget of 16,196 rupees for 2025-26

Gangtok, March 26 (PTI) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang delivered the budget at the conference on Wednesday 2025-26 fiscal year 161.96 million focuses on enhancing youth capabilities, enhancing farmers, investing in infrastructure and ensuring financial discipline.

On the second day of the ongoing meeting, at the end of his seventh consecutive budget presentation, Taman said the budget reflects the SKM government’s commitment to sustainable development and the welfare of the people of Sikkim.

He said: “Since we took over the governance of Sikkim in 2019, I have introduced our government’s seventh annual budget for fiscal year 2025-26. The budget reflects our government’s commitment to sustainable development and people’s welfare.”

Taman said the budget aims to strengthen Sikkim’s economy, promote inclusive growth, and ensure development benefits cover all citizens.

The Chief Minister also said that his government’s focus is still on empowering young people, enhancing farmers, investing in infrastructure and ensuring financial discipline.

“Through effective governance, we will drive economic growth, social equity and environmental sustainability while maintaining peace and harmony,” Taman said, adding that the budget will accelerate growth in Sikkim while ensuring long-term sustainability and inclusion.

The Chief Minister said that through strategic investments in key sectors – infrastructure, education, health care, connectivity, environmental protection, tourism and social welfare, the government aims to strengthen the state’s economy, improve livelihoods and improve the quality of life for every citizen.

He said the state government recognized the challenges posed by the state’s unique mountainous terrain, the vulnerability of climate change and the uncertainty of the global economic landscape and implemented policies to promote fair and sustainable development.

“We focus on strengthening resilience, fostering innovation and leveraging our natural and human capital to build a prosperous future,” Taman said, adding that investment in infrastructure will improve connectivity, alleviate transportation bottlenecks and promote economic activity.

Following the Chief Minister’s 37-minute budget speech, Speaker MN Sherpa said the budget discussion will be held on Thursday.

Earlier, Governor Om Prakash Mathur spoke to the house before the annual budget was submitted and called Sikkim a microcosm of peace, tranquility and harmony.

He said the Himalayas have become a beautiful place where peace and tranquility have prevailed over the past 50 years since the state was incorporated into the Indian Union.

Mathur praised Tamang for providing good governance in Sikkim and providing quality education and sanitation facilities to people.

Sikkim Governor exudes confidence that the state will maintain momentum on a journey of development and prosperity under the leadership of the chief minister in the coming years.
