Sunrisers Hyderabad pacemaker Mohammed Shami received death threats via email on Sunday at IPL 2025, and the Cyber Crime Police Department in Amroha District, Uttar Pradesh has registered for FIR. FIR filed on Monday under a police department (SP) order, noting that the report was registered by his brother Haseeb on behalf of Shami and named Rajput Sindar the sender of the threat email.
According to FIR, the sender also asked the cricketer to play Rs 10,000 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, who is busy playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. FIR has been registered under the following sections: Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023, Section 308 (4), Information Technology (Amendment) Act, Section 66d and Information Technology (Amendment) Act of 2008 (Amendment) Act, Section 66E, Police are investigating the matter.
So far, Shami has averaged 56.17 in nine games in SRH in IPL 2025. He was impressed in the Indian Championship trophy campaign, showing nine wickets in five matches, including five against Bangladesh.
Previously, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir also received death threats via email last month. DCP (Central) V. Harsha Vardhan said: “We have learned about alleged threatening emails received by the email ID related to Gautam Gambhir. The matter is under investigation. Gautam Gambhir is already protected by Delhi police and we do not comment on specific security arrangements.”
Gambhir filed a complaint against Delhi police in the wake of a deadly terrorist attack in Jamu and Pahalgam in Kashmir, which threatened at least 26 lives and caused several injuries.
