Mr. Tharoor said: “Because the Finance Minister was friendly enough to join us, let me capture the current situation with some light verses.” With this, harsh and humorous criticism:

Tax our gasoline, tax our shirts,

Tax our footwear, tax our dirt,

Tax our phones, tax our phones,

Tax on the collapse of our Hovel.

Tax our salary, tax our journey,

Tax on our party

Tax our sorrows, tax our cheers,

Tax our future year by year.

GST, income tax form is high,

Seths, the surcharge, let us sigh.

Potty roads, derailed trains

“Where has It‍iT‍?” ‍IS‍IT‍ALL‍a‍a‍failed?

When we ask, “Is this all in vain?”

You smiled and said, “This is for the benefit of the country!”

If we ask you to try to fix it,

You mean, “You will be Viksit!”

However, we still pay with patriotic hearts

Hopefully our cash will play a small part,

In the process of building the future, bright and fair

For the country we like, surpass comparison!

The poem touches every aspect of daily life – from cell phones to candy, sadness to celebrations – allegedly the weight of government taxes. His verses also question the practicality of such taxes “There are potholes, trains derailed/’Where are they going?’ Are these all failures?”

Tarole’s poetic history

This is not the first time Mr. Tarole turns to poetry to point out the views of the parliament. In 2022, he published a current viral poem criticizing inflation and economic hardships, and this began:

“”Earnings are falling, prices are rising, and life for ordinary people is very difficult…”

The poem is widely shared on social media and is praised for its creativity and critically keen political message.

Nirmala Sitharaman’s reaction and social media buzz

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman listened attentively during Mr. Tharoor’s poetic episode, and he was laughed, a reaction that quickly spread on the platform of X (formerly known as Twitter). The poem received applause from the opposition base, and BJP members largely avoided direct reactions.

Mr. Tharoor later shared the full poem on X, with users mocking his language and witty commands. Many pointed out how his verse brought a fresh tone to the parliamentary discourse while amplifying serious public attention.
