Mohanlal in L2E: empuraan
The second part of the Lucifer series, titled Mohanlal, L2E: Empuraan, has become the highest film in Malayalam. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s director surpassed Manjummel Boys’s lifelong collection in just nine days.
The empuraan’s possible portrayal of the riot in Gujarat was opposed, but it did not affect the box office performance. The latest figures for the film have been released, and according to Sacnilk, the film made 3 crore rupees in India on the second Friday. In the first week, Empuraan made Rs 23.6 crore worldwide. With the collection on Day 9, the global box office total has changed to Rs 23.9 billion worldwide. Once the overseas collections on the ninth day are revealed, we can expect the total to reach Rs 240-242 crore. In this way, Empuraan is racing towards a Rs 25 billion, and the film is expected to reach this milestone by the end of the second weekend.
Controversy about Empuraan
L2E: Empuraan has been opposed by moviegoers and even political leaders because it shows Hindus with “bad light”, calling it an anti-Hindu propaganda film. The film mentions the 2022 Godra Riot, and the scene where a pregnant Muslim lady was raped by Hindus. The scene appears to be called the Bilkis Bano case. Shortly after the first show, offensive netizens began to criticize Mohanlar and his team, and many asked the Drishim actor to strip him of his honorary lieutenant of the general position.
The manufacturer noted the audience’s anxiety and they quickly edited the scene, removed references to Babu Bajrangi and cut down the riot scene in Gujarat. The Empuraan team even apologized to the audience for “inadvertently” hurting their emotions.
