Monkey threats destroy Neilmar’s life

Hyderabad: The monkey threats in Nirmal and Mudagonda Towns reached alarming levels, causing general frustration among residents. With monkeys attacking them, women, children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to this threat.

In October, a 50-year-old woman, Bongoni Laxmi, a Beedi rolling worker from Vidyanagar, Khanapur, suffered a serious head injury when she tried to escape a monkey attack. Her head injury caused her death.

In Gandhi Chowk, Buddhawarpet and Somwarpet, monkeys also raided houses and stores to steal fruits, vegetables, groceries and other food, causing huge losses to commercial sites.

The government has established a dedicated department in Chincholi near Nirmal to disinfect monkeys. The department remains idle because institutions that should bring sterilization of monkeys fail to fulfill their responsibilities.

Mudagonda in Kamam District is another town affected by monkeys. But the people in this town decided to deal with the threat themselves. A group of people in Medipally Village, located in the outskirts of Mudagonda, armed with sticks, moved down the streets, chasing monkeys. However, with some monkeys returning, these efforts only provide temporary relief.

Mallik Ram, a resident of Mudagonda, urged the state government to hire agencies to collect monkeys and release them into the forest.
