“More than 100 people have been targeted at the human chain protests that have been reportedly held without permission from the Tana area of ​​Maharashtra,” the police said on Monday, May 19, 2025.

“The police registered the first information report on Saturday (May 17, 2025) for the protests held in six parts of the Mubra area,” an official said.

He said the protests took place on the afternoon of May 16, 2025, despite a prohibited order under the Maharashtra Police Act. The official said more than 100 people participated in the protests, disrupting traffic and violating legal bans.

“The protest was not allowed. Organizers continued to move forward and could disrupt public harmony and law and order.” The official said that the registration had been carried out under the relevant parts of the Maharashtra Police Act, according to Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and three defendants were identified.

“The incitement was held to protest external orders against local journalists,” it said.
