More than 1,000 musicians celebrating Thyagaraja Jayanti

Hyderabad:More than 1,000 musicians from all over Telangana will be gathered at 10.30 am on May 4 at the LB Indoor Stadium in Basheerbagh to celebrate the 258th anniversary of Sri Thyagaraja Swamy's birth. The announcement was made by Professor Alekhya Punjala, chairman of Telangana Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, at a press conference held in Kalabhavan on Friday.

She said the event was in response to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s call to promote art across the state. “This year, the Thyagaraja Jayanti celebrations in Hyderabad will match the size of those who were held in Thanjavur, where the sacred composers are respected.

Ministers Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Jupally Krishna Rao, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Kodad Mla N. Padmavathi will participate in the event. Including Dr. Shobharaju, Dr. Haripriya, Dr. Shobharaju, several Padma Shri winners who include Dr. Shobharaju, will also be present. Their participation will inspire young artists, Dr. Punjab said.

She recalls how Akademi organized Jayanti celebrations for Bhakta Ramadasu and Nataraja Ramakrishna earlier. She added: “Thyagaraja’s service to Carnatic music is unlimited, and this event was organized to preserve and dedicate traditions of prospects.”

The musician's name has been registered, although other interested people are free to join the day. Akademi is also preparing for another cultural event for Kaleshwaram Pushkarams, starting on May 15, with 24 teams going on for 10 days in 10 days.
