More than 110 people commit violence in Murshidabad, raiding in other areas: WB police

Police said on Saturday (April 12, 2025) that more than 110 people were arrested in the violence in the Mushidabad area of West Bengal, led by Muslims in West Bengal.
Several vehicles, including police, were caught fire, stones were thrown at security forces, and the violently shocked areas of Malda, Mershidabad, South 24 Parganas and Hogley were blocked in new legislation on Friday (April 11, 2025).

Police said raids were underway in all these areas, with more than 110 arrests in Mershidabad.
“About 70 people were arrested from Suti, and 41 people related to the violence were from Samserganj,” a police officer said.
Officials said the situation in these places where violence was subject to violence remained tense on Saturday (April 12, 2025), but no reports were reported.

They said that in the worst-affected area of Mershidabad, a ban order has been imposed and Internet services have been suspended.
“Party patrols in the Chunshui and Samserganj areas.
Meanwhile, a teenage boy was allegedly injured by police during a clash in Kyuko and was taken to a hospital in Kolkata, police said.

Areas where violence is seen have important Muslim populations.
The BJP attacked the Mamata Banerjee government and noted that it should seek help from the center if it is “incapable” to deal with the situation.
“It’s not that it’s not an act of protest, but a premeditated act of violence, an attack on democracy and governance by jihadist groups, who try to spread chaos in order to maintain their dominance and seeds in other communities in our society,” opposition Suvendu Adhikari said in an article on X.
He said: “Public property was destroyed, government officials felt threatened and a atmosphere of fear and intimidation was created, all under the guise of false dissent.
Mr Adhikari said that the person behind the violence must be determined based on the strictest legal hierarchy.
