The Prime Minister’s Institute of Medical Research revealed that in Delhi, nearly 35% of the faculty positions are vacant in the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Administrative officials in the AIIMS-DELHI teacher cell said that responding under the Right to Information (RTI) bill, the institute said 430 faculty members were vacant at the institute, opposing 1,235 approvals.
The application was filed by RTI activist MM Shuja, who sought information on the AIIMS DELHI feature in January. The institute provided information to applicants on March 18.
The institute revealed that it promoted 172 assistant professor positions in 2019, but only 110 candidates joined.
In 2021 and 2022, only 173 assistant professors and three associate professors from the School of Nursing joined the institute, compared with 270 open positions.
It said that in 2020, 2023, 2024 and the first three months of that year, no regular teacher positions were recruited.
