MP Govt unveils Rs 47 crore – Elephant Management Plan

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government unveiled an elephant management plan on Tuesday aimed at reducing human conflict in the state.
A state government spokesman said the national cabinet, which was meeting under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved the expenditure of Rs 47.11 crore on the project to implement the project.
The project is planned to be implemented within four years.
Under the scheme, a fund of Rs 152 crore has been spent to ensure the safety of the elephants by monitoring the actions of the elephants.
It is proposed to spend a fund of Rs 20 crore under projects in 2025-26 and at Rs 255.9 crore in 2026-27.
The comprehensive plan focuses on protected areas where elephants are known to move or live in and areas outside such areas.
It includes provisions for safety and monitoring, habitat management and development of wild elephants.
According to the plan, control rooms will be set up to monitor elephants’ movements and the necessary infrastructure will be developed to alleviate conflicts between human wildlife and plants.
An electronic glasses monitoring system will be established and operated.
The project will also carry out rescue and rehabilitation for wildlife.
Fences that will be installed, including solar fences, will be formed to respond to emergencies.
In addition, the “Haathi Mitra Dal” (Friends of Elephants) will be formed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife and how to avoid conflicts in human elephants.
Madhya Pradesh had no residents earlier.
However, a few years ago, elephants moved from the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh to Madhya Pradesh, and a group of elephants settled within the forest range of the state’s Bandavgar Teger Reserve (BTR) and became residents of the area.
