Reliance Jio will soon start offering Starlink hardware at retail stores across India. This will allow customers to directly access satellite internet equipment. The plan depends on SpaceX’s announcement in its quarterly results on Friday, with the necessary approvals being made in the country.
The move is part of a new agreement between Jio and SpaceX. The purpose is to bring Starlink’s broadband service to Indian users. It is worth noting that Jio’s rival Bharti Airtel is owned by Mukesh Ambani, who also reached an agreement with Elon Musk’s Satcom company.
Jio not only plans to sell Starlink Gear. They also built dedicated customer service systems to help people install and activate devices.
Reliance Jio Platforms Limited achieved a successful March quarter. Their revenues rose 17.8% year-on-year to Rs 398,53 crore. The company’s quarterly EBITDA reached Rs 17,016 crore, an increase of 18.5% compared to last year.
“Jio and SpaceX are also evaluating other complementary areas of cooperation to further enhance India’s digital ecosystem with their respective infrastructure,” Reliance Industries Limited said.
The agreement between Jio and Starlink, announced in March, still requires regulatory approval.
If approved, such partnerships can greatly improve internet access in rural and remote areas. It can achieve this by using Jio’s local coverage and Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite technology.
Experts say India’s top telecommunications company can add Starlink to its current services. They can offer simple payment and installation options. This may make Stars and Stripes more affordable than selling them as separate specialty products.
As of March 2025, Jio has a total of more than 488 million subscribers, including 191 million real 5G users. The increase in 5G usage and home broadband services have resulted in approximately 185 annual data traffic. This is a 24% increase compared to the previous year.
The average revenue per user (ARPU) also reached Rs 206.2, compared with Rs 203 in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025. This is helpful due to the full impact of the recent price increase.
