Mumbai HC insists on life imprisonment for 2 Chhota Rajan gang members in 2010 double murder case

Mumbai: The Mumbai High Court on Tuesday upheld the conviction and life sentences of two Chhota Rajan gang members in the 2010 double murder case, noting that the trial court’s verdict was “good, legal”.
In August 2022, the court here ruled that Mohammed Ali Shaikh and Pranay Rane were acquitted for murder, criminal conspiracy and crimes under the Weapons Act, and for lack of evidence and two others.
On Tuesday, the courts of Justices Neela Gokhale and Revati Dere dismissed the appeal filed by Shaikh and Rane.
“When a comprehensive assessment was conducted, the recorded evidence established the appellant’s guilt,” the bench said.
According to representatives of the police’s special prosecutor Pradeep Gharat, four men opened fire on Asif Khan, the alleged fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, at a location near the JJ Marg police station in the city on February 13, 2010.
Khan managed to escape, but saw Khan there, Shakeel Modak and Asif Qureshi, who suffered bullet wounds and died on the scene.
