Mumbai HC sends notice to Fadnavis, two BJP MLAs allegations about poll violations

The Nagpur bench of the Mumbai High Court issued a notice to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP Mlas Mohan Mate and Kirtikumar ‘Bunty’ Bhangadiya in connection with the election petition, challenging their 2024 parliamentary polls.

The notices follow a request from defeating congressional candidates who accused procedural violations and corruption in elections held last November.

Congress leader Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe, who lost to Fadnavis by 39,710 votes among Southwest voters in Nagpur, filed a petition in January in an attempt to declare the result “invalid and invalid”.
Kiran Pandav of Congress filed a similar petition against Mohan Mart (Nagpur South) and Satish Warjukar and a similar petition against Bhangadiya (Chimur, Chandrapur). All petitions were presented through advocates Pavan Dahat and Akash Moon.

Justice Pravin Patil tried the issue in his conference hall Thursday and directed all three respondents to submit their responses by May 8.

Petition cited EVM use without notice

The petitioner claimed that several mandatory election programs by the Election Commission were ignored, including the failure to formally inform the use of electronic voting machines (EVMS) (EVMS), the lack of VVPAT (paper review signs of voting verification) verification, and the failure to disclose key records such as Form 17 and CCTV footsteps, and reported Formrooms. They believe these mistakes undermine the transparency and fairness of the election process. The court’s lawsuit comes the day after it issued a similar summons to BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar, NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) MLA Manoj Kayande and BJP’s Deorao Bhongale.
