Mumbai terrorist attack: NIA opposes Tahawwur Rana requests to talk to Kin, saying key information may be shared

The National Bureau of Investigation said on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) that the jailed terrorist attack in Mumbai is accused of Tahawwur Hussain Rana may share important information if conversations with family members are allowed.
The NIA appeared in a special NIA court and filed a request to Rana for talking to her family, pointing out their concerns about their health.

The Counter-terrorism agency also said the matter is at a critical stage.
The judge heard the matter in his chamber and retained the April 24 order.
Rana filed an application through a lawyer claiming that talking to her family was his fundamental right. The 64-year-old Pakistani-Origin Canadian businessman was sent to 18 days of custody by the court on April 10.

The NIA, which is part of the criminal conspiracy, a NIA allegation that David Coleman Headley discussed the entire operation with Rana before visiting India.
Nia told the court to seek remand.
Headley also informed Rana about the involvement of Pakistani nationals Ilyas Kashmiri and Abdur Rehman, who were also charged in the case.
Rana was a close assistant to the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, with chief accomplices David Coleman Headley and U.S. citizen Daood Gilani, who were brought to India to the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his request for review of his extradition on April 4.
On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists rushed into India’s financial capital using sea routes in the Arabian Sea, and coordinated attacks on the railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish center.
As many as 166 people were killed in nearly 60 hours of attack.
